Ticoya game

The Ticoya model aims at exploring wildmeat hunting and trading strategies under different socio-economic scenarios. The game simulates the mosaic of activities that hunters perform in the wet and dry season, while also allowing for specific hunting strategies. Socio-economic conditions change while the game unfolds and allow understanding how players respond to the availability of livelihood alternatives and to the legalization of wildmeat trade. Will they give up hunting? Will they overexploit animal species? These are some of the questions that the Ticoya game can explore. The game is a combination of a boardgame and an agent-based model. The latter is used to code the animal population dynamics while the boardgame is the interface through which players interact and upon which they take decisions.

The game was co-designed with the hunters of the indigenous reserve Ticoya in the Colombian Amazon. More details about the project can be found here.
